Make Math Fun

Kids are easy. If it does not look like fun, they are not interested. Most kids do not find math very amusing. It does not have to be that way, math really can be fun. The more fun the kids have with math the more they are going to learn.

A fun way to learn math is by figuring things out for themselves. Kids like to think about things and when the come up with an answer on their own, they feel as if they have made an achievement. A good way to keep the kids interested is to try asking them a question or giving them a math problem that takes a little while to answer. Give them a day or so and you will be amazed with how well they do finding the right answer.

Another idea to try is role reversal. Children love to be in charge. There is no better way for them to pay attention to what they have learned than trying to show someone else how to do it. It has been proven that teaching something is a good way of retaining it to memory and really learning it.

There is no exact way to teach math, but the more fun you make math, the more willing the kids will be to learn.

We all know that at many schools one-size-fits-all policy and approach is widespread and common. But it is impossible to achieve success and get deep understanding of the subject by means of it. Community College is a Great Start

Many motivated high school seniors have the choice of the right college on top of their to-do list. Their parents are especially concerned about distance and costs. Many high schools pamper their students with a wide range of customized accommodations and involved parents can only hope that the chosen university or college will have similar programs. Parents often fear the negative consequences of the students are numbers – treatment of the bigger universities.
Maybe the solution to this is that we should have our students jump over a creek instead of over a canyon: consider a two-year college. To many, this more personalized form of higher education ranks higher than the anonymity of big universities and their 4-year deals. The first two years are, after all, just college basics. Two year colleges do not offer higher level classes, but that is ok. After all, this is a time of transition and decision making and classes that fulfill that task of preparing are the real need here. Do not expect your student to make jumps they cannot make. Do not push them to jump anyway, because if they are not ready for it they will not make it. Sitting in an auditorium with tons of s tudents creates alienation between them and their professors. Customization to special needs is an unrealistic expectation. Community colleges score much higher when it comes to dealing with special needs students.
Community colleges are also much more affordable and students of all layers of society find their way in. Those who have to work their way through college can have a much more flexible schedule at the community colleges and online classes are gaining popularity.
Not all students feel comfortable with a four year planning to the future. For many, a two year program is a lot more realistic, especially for those who need to make real money soon. Do not make this perspective look like it is a less valuable option. Many great students started their education at a community college, transferred their credits and graduated from notorious universities. Overall, your college education influences all aspects of adult life, including your earnings. Do not take decisions lightly when it comes to the quality of your future.

So Much Math So Little Time

Math is a very important subject that everyone should learn about in school. The word math is somewhat vague when you think about how many different kinds of math there are out there. From the time we learn to count, we are learning math. Every day we use some kind of math without noticing.

When we are in primary school, we are introduced to the basics of mathematics. We learn to count. We learn to tell time. We learn to tell the difference between monetary units.

Usually, children start by learning the basics of addition and subtraction. As the child gets older, other types of math are introduced such as multiplication and then division.

Generally, children are introduced to theses forms of mathematics in single digits, and then double and so on and so forth. In a way, math grows with the children.

In secondary school, children are given their first shot at Algebra, a type of math that uses letters, numbers and formulas. Most schools have three or four different levels of Algebra.

When the children enter high school, the math becomes a little more difficult. More advanced types of mathematics are introduced such as Geometry, Calculus and Trigonometry.

As numbers are infinite, so it seems that math may be as well

Teaching Math In the Kitchen

Are you looking for a way to increase your children’s skills in math? There is no other place to teach them than in the kitchen. In addition to teaching math skills, cooking also teaches reading, science and independence. Unlike books and worksheets, when you are finished with your work, you can eat it. Math is all over the kitchen. There are servings to calculate, ingredients to measure, temperatures to set, cooking times, pan sizes and a host of multiplication and fractions.

You can even get help in the kitchen from children as young as two or three. It is best, however to have all of your equipment, utensils and ingredients laid out for easy access when working with younger children. Use the biggest bowl you have when teaching children to mix to avoid flying batter. Children of this age may be too young to help with the fractions on the measuring cup, but they can help you count out the eggs for the mix.

There are several books on cooking with children available at your local library. Look for children’s cookbooks for age appropriate recipes.

Your children will have so much fun helping you in the kitchen and learning to cook, that they will not even notice that they are working on their math skills as well.

Everyday Math

How many times have you heard a school-age child talking about how much they hate math and how they are never going to use it when they are out of school? In fact, the exact opposite is true. Math is probably the one subject that you continue to use in your everyday life after leaving school. Math is definitely important and everyone should make it a point to learn at least basic addition and subtraction.

When you wake up in the morning, do you check the clock to see what time it is? Where did you learn to tell time? If you are like the rest of us, you probably learned in math class. Do you start your day off with a cup of coffee? When you figure the coffee to water ratio, you are doing math. Do you measure your flour for your pancakes and biscuits? Measuring is math. Do you leave for work at a certain time every morning so you will make it to work on time? You probably used a math problem to figure out what time you need to leave.

Maybe you do not make your own coffee at home; maybe you buy it from a local coffee shop. You are wrong if you think that means they do all the math. That is right; you have to pay for the coffee. First, you know the difference between a quarter and a dime because you learned it in math class. Then, you make sure you get the correct change by doing more math.

You definitely use math every day.

Math has a reputation of being one of the most resented subjects in school for students of all ages. Even though math is something that we all use one way or another every day of our lives, some people just totally detest it. The reason math is hated so is probably because it has a tendency to be difficult for many people. Some people find calculus hard and some people find division incomprehensible. No matter which level of difficulty you find math, with the right teacher you can learn beyond your wildest dreams.

The right teacher loves to teach. He or she will be teachers because they want to be teachers, not just settling until something better comes their way. The second aspect you should hope for in a math teacher is intelligence. If the teacher does not sound like he or she fully understands the lesson they are trying to teach. There are many different types of math to be taught. A teacher that has extensive knowledge in the type of math they are teaching, they will make more sense to the students when they are learning something new. Most importantly, a great math teacher is the one that makes math fun.
